TOKYO GHOUL Comes to Life on Home Video in the UK

Just over a year after it was released in Japan, the live-action Tokyo Ghoul movie has now finally made its way to DVD and Blu-ray in the UK. The British release was handled by Anime Limited, a company that specializes in bringing Japanese entertainment to European nations. Head over to Amazon to order your copy now.

Tokyo Ghoul stars Masataka Kubota as Ken Kaneki, a young man transformed into a ghoul after a botched organ transplant. Cursed with an insatiable appetite for human flesh, Kaneki is forced to become a fugitive as he struggles to adapt to his new life as a creature of the shadows. Taking refuge in a cafe run by fellow ghouls, he soon finds that he will have no choice but to defend the people he once thought of as monsters.

The film was directed by Kentarô Hagiwara, and it also stars Fumika Shimizu, Yū Aoi and Nobuyuki Suzuki, Kunio Murai, and Kai Ogasawara.

Our own Jonathan Barkan awarded Tokyo Ghoul a score of seven out of ten, calling it “a beautiful but flawed adaptation.” It was also a modest financial success, grossing over $5 million worldwide, which is hardly surprising, seeing as Sui Ishida’s original Tokyo Ghoul manga has over 34 million copies in print. Fans of the manga and newcomers alike should both give the live-action film a chance because they are unlikely to be disappointed.
