Original GRUDGE Producer Suing Reboot
First Friday the 13th, now The Grudge.
Looks like director Nicolas Pesce’s upcoming remake of Grudge starring Andrea Riseborough, Demian Bichir, John Cho, Lin Shaye, Betty Gilpin, Jacki Weaver, William Sadler, and Frankie Faison is in trouble.
Deadline reports, the producer of the original Japanese franchise Taka lchise has filed a breach of contract suit saying that Good Universe refused to allow him to produce.
The claim says that Good Universe acquired the reboot rights on the condition Ichise be given a producer credit and paid an agreed upon fee. And evidently, Good Universe has not given Ichise a producer credit – or his fee.
The suit can be read here.

The Grudge (2004) synopsis:
Matthew Williams (William Mapother), his wife, Jennifer (Clea DuVall), and mother, Emma (Grace Zabriskie), are Americans making a new life in Tokyo. Together they move into a house that has been the site of supernatural occurrences in the past, and it isn’t long before their new home begins terrorizing the Williams family as well. The house, as it turns out, is the site of a curse that lingers in a specific place and claims the lives of anyone that comes near.
