Back to School: Dread Central’s 30-Day Horror Challenge for September 2018

A couple months back, we liberated the 30/31-Day Horror Movie Challenge from the month of October. First, we created a “Heatwave” themed challenge for the month of July; it featured films that were hot (figuratively and literally) taking place in arid deserts, foreboding badlands, cursed summer camps, and even the flaming corridors of Hell itself!  Next came our “Aquatic Terrors” themed challenge for the month of August; it sported films that explored the genre’s plethora of underwater horrors.

Since most schools and universities begin new academic sessions in September, this month’s theme is Back to School! Summer’s over, and it’s time to hit the books (which is a terrifying prospect itself)! Everyone knows that High School can be hell, and horror practitioners have often plumbed the perils of adolescence in order to tap into shared anxieties and primal fears. In addition to featuring films that take place in High Schools, we’ll be bringing you creepers set in universities, academies, and even one that takes place in elementary school!

The idea is to create unique and inspiring curriculums for the truly devoted, so ask yourself: Are you a horror fan who lives every day like it’s Halloween? Do you have the gumption and the stamina to consume a new horror movie every day of every month? If so, feast your eyes on our 30-Day Horror Challenge for September below. Let us know you’re joining in the festivities by using #MonthOfDread on your social accounts when you watch these movies! Good luck and pleasant screams!

Did your favorite Back to School-themed horror movie make the list? What are some other school-set genre flicks that deserve a shout-out? Let us know in the comments below or on Facebook, Twitter, and/or Instagram!

Ep. 347 Smile 2: “The Tale of Schmorgashbords, Part 1”
Ket tells Kim about the highly requested and truly terrifying Smile 2. This left Ketryn truly shooketh and gave The Substance a run for its money in grotesque-ness. It was simply a smorgasbord of gore and the first time in podcast history that Ket is the one who can’t quite say a word. Stay tuned for part 2 to find out what type of pants Kim needs for this one.Writer/Dir. Ep. 344 Oddity Part 2: “The Tale of the Woodm’n”
Ket tells Kim Part 2 of Oddity. Kim refreshes our goldfish brains on how it all shook out in part 1. So, let’s all sit back down and have a charcuterie with our terrifying Man ‘o’ Wood. All the girls can ask is “does anyone have the hook up on where they could find their own Woodm’n? We have some ‘monsters’ to vanquish.” Most importantly, we’ll learn if Kim will live or die in Oddity. Writer/Dir.
