“Smash and Run” in This Exclusive Track Premiere From James Edward Barker’s MARA Soundtrack

James Edward Barker and Javier Botet

Ahead of this Friday’s release (both soundtrack and film), we’ve got our hands on an exclusive track premiere from James Edward Barker’s Mara score, and it’s a pulse-pounding stab of terror. Titled “Smash and Run”, the piece clearly comes from a point in the film where a lot of action is happening. This isn’t a somber, moody piece that is meant to build an atmosphere, this is the kind of music where lives are at stake!

Barker tells us, “This piece of music features fairly late on in the film when Olga Kurylenko’s character, Dr. Kate Fuller, is in the midst of her race-against-time run, in a last-ditch-attempt to save a young girl named Sophie from the deathly grips of the demon, Mara, played by the amazingly terrifying Javier Botet a.k.a Slender Man. The track features some crazy mental strings, some ghostly murmurs sang by three awesome female vocalists, and a horrific screech made by myself on a Thai Saw Duang. Thanks to Dread Central for sharing this exclusive track with its readers! Enjoy!”

You can listen to the stream above.

After a man is seemingly strangled in his bed, criminal psychologist Kate Fuller (Olga Kurylenko) interviews the sole witness, the victim’s eight-year-old daughter, Sophie. When asked to identify the killer, Sophie says, “Mara.” As Kate digs into the case, she unearths a community of people who claim to be tormented by a shadowy menace, a centuries-old demon who kills her victims as they sleep.

Mara is the feature film debut of director Clive Tonge and was written by Jonathan Frank (The Tournament). It stars Olga Kurylenko (Oblivion, Vampire Academy), Javier Botet  (It, Slender Man, Insidious: The Last Key) and Mitch Eakins(Evil Bong).

Saban Films will release Mara in theaters and On Demand/Digital HD on September 7, 2018.
