Salem Witch Trials Get 21st Century Twist in Red Band Trailer for ASSASINATION NATION

For the uninitiated, “Red Band” means that the trailer itself is Rated R, and therefore NSFW—and the Red Band trailer for Assassination Nation is especially risqué (*cough* nudity *cough*). In all seriousness, the upcoming thriller looks like someone put the best elements of Tragedy Girls and The Purge franchise in a blender, all set against a backdrop that resets the Salem Witch Trials in the 21st Century.

Assassination Nation is written and directed by Sam Levinson (Another Happy Day) and stars Odessa Young (High Life), Hari Nef (Transparent), Suki Waterhouse (The Bad Batch, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies), and newcomer Abra. Looks for the madness to invade US theaters beginning September 21st.

Assassination Nation is having its world premiere during this week’s TIFF festival.

Synopsis:
This is a thousand percent a true story about how the quiet, all-American town of Salem absolutely lost its mind. High school senior Lily and her three best friends live in a haze of texts, posts, selfies, and chats — just like the rest of the world. Their small town gets turned upside down when an anonymous hacker starts to reveal personal messages and secrets of thousands of people. As anger erupts into full-blown violence, the four girls soon find themselves in a fight for their lives against an armed mob.
