Don Coscarelli Spills Guts in Bloody Memoir TRUE INDIE: LIFE AND DEATH IN FILMMAKING
Don Coscarelli is a bona fide horror icon. Not only is he the mastermind behind the much-loved Phantasm franchise, he helmed (semi)recent cult hits Bubba Ho-Tep and John Dies at the End. Coscarelli’s latest project is a memoir True Indie: Life and Death in Filmmaking.
As someone who has had the pleasure of interviewing and holding casual conversations with Coscarelli, I can attest that he’s a brilliant conversationalist. He looks you in the eyes and conveys a sense of self-awareness and receptiveness. If he writes with half the engagement he speaks with, True Indie will be an infectious and entertaining read.
The book hits online and brick-and-mortar retailers on October 2nd, and Coscarelli will be promoting it at a number of stops through late October. According to Entertainment Weekly:
In Coscarelli’s book True Indie: Life and Death in Filmmaking (out Oct. 2), he details the many highs and lows of his career, offering a masterclass to those hoping to pursue their own Hollywood dreams via his successes and failures. As the Phantasm-loving Abrams notes in his recommendation, “True Indie is a charming, entertaining and insightful look at the life and work of a bold and brazen filmmaker. It hits the mark like a speeding, double-spiked chrome ball.”
