When you hear the name Guillermo del Toro, you immediately think about monsters mirroring tales we’ve been told as children. The landscape he lays out remains, in large part, the stuff of dark fairy tales. This may be the element that most excites fans when they hear about The Strain comic book series from Dark Horse Comics, and we’re pleased to present an exclusive first look at the cover for Issue #3.
Take a man with an imagination like that and set him loose in present day New York City for a vampire story like no other. Got your attention?! Here’s the skinny…
The Strain (click here to pre-order) will be a 24-issue series told over two years as 8 issues each of The Strain, The Fall, and The Eternal, based on the novels from Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan. The comics are adapted by David Lapham (Stray Bullets) and artist Mike Huddleston (Butcher Baker the Righteous Maker).
The Strain Series Synopsis: When a Boeing 777 lands at JFK International Airport and goes dark on the runway, the Center for Disease Control, fearing a terrorist attack, calls in Dr. Ephraim Goodweather and his team of expert biological-threat first responders. Only an elderly pawnbroker from Spanish Harlem suspects a darker purpose behind the event – an ancient threat intent on covering mankind in darkness.
Issue #3 Synopsis – As an eclipse covers New York City in midday darkness, Dr. Ephraim Goodweather and his team from the Center for Disease Control struggle to find an explanation for what happened to Flight 753. But when the symptoms don’t add up to chemical warfare, and bizarre circumstances unexplained by modern medicine arise, Ephraim begins to entertain the ramblings of a Holocaust survivor who knows too much about this unknown threat…
…an unknown threat that resembles a naked, fat vampire guy with a tongue straight out of a Resident Evil game!!
Issue #3 goes on sale February 8th, 2012.
