Jen & Sylvia Soska Are Writing Marvel’s New BLACK WIDOW Comic Book Series
Marvel held a “Women of Marvel” panel at New York Comic-Con this weekend, during which it was announced that Jen and Sylvia Soska will be penning a new Black Widow series! Our favorite “Twisted Twins” are close to wrapping their remake of David Cronenberg’s Rabid in Toronto, meaning they’ll be getting right to work on the Black Widow series, eyeing a January 2019 release.
The Hollywood Reporter broke the news:
The new series marks the first time the character has anchored a solo series since the 2017 conclusion of Chris Samnee and Mark Waid’s 12-issue series; in the interim, the Black Widow was killed in the Secret Empire comic book event, and subsequently resurrected in the Tales of Suspense: Hawkeye & The Winter Soldier mini-series.
For the uninitiated, here’s Black Widow’s basic bio:
Despite her origins as an agent of evil, Natasha Romanoff has become a force for good in the world of covert intelligence and super heroics. Like her namesake arachnid, Romanoff is stealthy, precise, and absolutely lethal. She is the Black Widow.
Though the Soskas have written for Marvel in the past (the duo’s work appeared in 2015’s Secret Wars Journal mini-series) most horror fans know the filmmaking duo as the masterminds behind the neo-grindhouse shockers Dead Hooker in a Trunk and American Mary. We’ll be keeping our ears to the ground in order to bring you all Soska Sisters-related news as details emerge. Stay tuned!
