The Spider Hole TO THE MONSTERS Exclusive Graphic Novel Art Reveal for Dread Central

Arizona alt-rockers The Spider Hole are taking music-making to the next level; their upcoming album, To The Monsters, will be a multi-media affair with a graphic novel acting as a companion piece. Dread Central was lucky enough to get the full scoop from the band themselves, along with an exclusive peek at the artwork for To The Monsters. Here’s the full scoop:

Phoenix, Arizona’s The Spider Hole has been regaling the local scene with their unique alternative sound–which is best described as the result of a mad affair between Tom Waits and Nick Cave while Les Claypool lurks in the corner–and the four-piece is ready to introduce the rest of us with their upcoming multi-platform concept album and graphic novel, To The Monsters, an ode to Halloween, weird fiction, and timeless horrors. Featuring the phenomenal artwork of front-man Ethan Scott, the graphic novel serves as the perfect visual accompaniment to the highly anticipated new album.

The Spider Hole: “After four years of great loss, love, and luck, we are returning with a new lineup, a new producer, a new sound, and two incredible new projects: A full-length CD, and an accompanying graphic novel. This is The Spider Hole as it was always meant to be. Darker. Heavier. Deeper. And weirder. Much, much weirder.”

The upcoming album explores all genres of horror, from the Lovecraftian (“Hungover at the Eel God Festival”) to the 80s Slasher (“Night of the Nighty-Night Slasher [’84 Demo]”), and takes a fresh look at such topics as zombie-ism (“Still Draw Breath”), lycanthropy (“Werewolf Biker Bastard From Shit-Town, Arizona”), and haunted houses (“The People Who Come Out of the Ceiling”).

The Spider Hole: “To The Monsters, our third full-length CD, features eleven brand new tracks devoted to the spectrum of things that go bump in the night. This themed album is at turns whimsical, unsettling, and terrifying. To The Monsters is produced by rising legend Jeffrey Robens, Jr., and showcases a new direction for the band, one marked by heavier hooks, dark synthetic pulses, strange structural shifts, and unrestrained vocals.”

The horror anthology graphic novel features 4 stories, each one following a different member of the band as they confront their greatest fears over the course of a Halloween night. In the most ambitious installment–the following images from which are being exclusively revealed here–a lushly illustrated prose tale called “Sail Hatin’,” guitarist Kilen is invited to a Halloween party on a private island by the alluring daughter of a powerful music mogul. His fear of open water, however, will be the least of his aquatic concerns if he hopes to survive the night.
