Tilda Swinton Went Full Monty with Prosthetic Penis for Male Character in SUSPIRIA

More than just the cat is out of the bag!

At first, Tilda Swinton denied that she was the actor portraying Dr. Josef Klemperer in Luca Guadagnino’s Suspiria; on IMDB, the part was originally credited to Lutz Ebersdorf). She recently came clean after the film screened in Europe and North America and, apparently, the actress used more than just heavy makeup and facial sculping techniques to transform into an elderly man.

In an effort to achieve maximum anatomical accuracy, Swinton wore a prosthetic penis while dressed and made up as Klemperer. It was Suspiria makeup artist Mark Coulier who spilled the beans (yes, another juvenile pun intended). He was extremely graphic when describing the unit to IndieWire:

“[Swinton] did have us make a penis and balls. She had this nice, weighty set of genitalia so that she could feel it dangling between her legs, and she managed to get it out on set on a couple of occasions.”

Suspiria arrives in theaters in LA and New York on October 26th with a nationwide roll-out beginning November 2nd. You can check out the synopsis and trailer below; in addition to Swinton, the film stars Dakota Johnson, Mia Goth, and Chloë Grace Moretz.

Synopsis:
A darkness swirls at the center of a world-renowned dance company, one that will engulf the troupe’s artistic director, an ambitious young dancer and a grieving psychotherapist. Some will succumb to the nightmare — others will finally wake up.
