Brahms will Stalk Katie Holmes in THE BOY 2
Some horror movies hinge on such a singular twist, such a crucial reveal, that once the genie is released, it’s impossible to put it back in its bottle; think Jacob’s Ladder, Housebound, and The Sixth Sense: These films seem especially ill-designed for potential sequels, as nothing will ever be able to match the original’s impact. The Boy is another one of these films, one that seems all but impossible to continue in any form besides a complete reboot.
Maybe we missed something, or maybe STX and Lakeshore want to get in on the doll-horror craze pushing both Don Mancini and MGM to bring new Chucky projects to fruition. Whatever the case, The Boy is getting a sequel; set to go before cameras in Canada this January, the sequel to 2016’s creeper staring Lauren Cohan will feature Katie Holmes.
Though mostly known for her portrayal of Joey on the tween-centric Dawson’s Creek TV series of the 1990s, Holmes does have some experience in the genre. She appeared in The Gift, Disturbing Behavior, Abandon, and Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark, for example. The Boy 2 will carry over the original’s director (William Brent Bell) and writer (Stacey Menear).
Synopsis:
Unaware of the terrifying history of Heelshire Mansion, a young family moves into the estate, where their young son soon makes an unsettling new friend, an eerily life-like doll he calls Brahms.
It’ll be a while before we get a target release date or a trailer, but we’ll keep you posted on all Boy-related news as details emerge. Stay tuned! In the meantime, revisit the synopsis and trailer for 2016’s The Boy below.
Synopsis:
A young American named Greta (Lauren Cohan) takes a job as a nanny for an 8-year-old boy in a remote English village. To her surprise, Greta learns that the child of her new employers is a life-size doll. They care for the doll as if it was human, which helps the couple to cope with the death of their own son 20 years earlier. When Greta violates a list of strict rules, a series of disturbing and inexplicable events bring her worst fears to life, leading her to believe that the doll is alive.
