Maggie’s Future on THE WALKING DEAD is Uncertain; Movies a Possibility
Whereas The Walking Dead mainstay Rick Grimes (played by Andrew Lincoln) was spirited away with great fanfare last Sunday, Maggie Greene/Rhee (played by Lauren Cohan) may disappear with hardly murmur. When the show returns next Sunday, six years will have past and Maggie will be gone; but whereas we’ve been told Grimes will return in a series of made-for-TV Walking Dead movies, it’s uncertain if Maggie will ever return.
While Cohan hasn’t exactly quit the show, she’s taken another job; Whiskey Cavalier is being filmed in Prague for ABC, and it’s certain to become Cohan’s most time-intensive gig. Still, series supervisor Scott M. Gimple wants to leave the door wide opened for the actress, implying she, too, may return to The Walking Dead in a future movie.
Here’s what Gimple told EW:
“[Maggie appearing in a Walking Dead movie] is absolutely a possibility,” Gimple confirmed. “I will say that Angela [Kang] and I and others really want to see Maggie back on the show. We have a lot of story for her that we want to tackle and we’ve talked about different ways we can do it. That said, if Whiskey Cavalier lights up the world, we’re still going to do Maggie stuff. We’re just going to figure out different ways to do it. It might be me shooting Lauren in between scenes of Whiskey Cavalier, of Maggie in a post-apocalyptic Prague [where Whiskey Cavalier is filming].”
I’m not an expert at reading between lines, but it kind of sounds like the ball’s in Cohan’s court. Either way, we’re in for some major changes on The Walking Dead. Check out the trailer below for a taste at what’s in store.
