Special Features Announced for New MANIAC Limited Edition 3-Disc 4K Restoration

While 2012’s Maniac (directed by Franck Khalfoun from a script penned by Alexandre Aja) is one of the few remakes that’s at least as good as its source material, the original Maniac from 1980 remains a cult classic of the highest caliber. If you’ve never seen Maniac, directed by William Lustig and starring Joe Spinell (who also wrote the script), you’ll soon have an opportunity to revisit the slasher classic in a new 4K restoration.

On December 11th, the folks at Blue Underground are releasing a new, limited edition (only 10,000 copies) of 1980’s Maniac, a 4K restoration made from the film’s original camera negatives; it will also include a 3D lenticular slipcover. Synopsis:
Frank Zito is a deeply disturbed man, haunted by the traumas of unspeakable childhood abuse. And when these horrific memories begin to scream inside his mind, Frank prowls the seedy streets of New York City to stalk and slaughter innocent young women. Now Frank has begun a relationship with a beautiful photographer yet his vile compulsions remain. These are the atrocities of a human monster. This is the story of a MANIAC.
