HAPPY DEATH DAY Director to Helm Flick Based on Horror Novel MY BEST FRIEND’S EXORCISM

Christopher Landon is a rising star in horror after directing last year’s horror-comedy megahit Happy Death Day; he’s gone on to both write and direct the sequel, Happy Death Day 2U, which is currently in post-production eyeing a Valentine’s Day release on February 14th. While he’s clearly been burning the midnight oil, Landon isn’t taking any time off to recharge.

Today brings word that Landon is directing My Best Friend’s Exorcism, based on a novel by Grady Hendrix; It’s being described as “Heathers meets Beaches meets The Exorcist”. THR got the scoop:

“Besting out several suitors, Endeavor Content, the entity behind Killing Eve and Colette, has picked up the rights to My Best Friend’s Exorcism. Jenna Lamia, who was a writer on Awkward. and 90210, has been tapped to pen the script.”

No word on who’s being considered for the cast, nor when producers hope to unveil My Best Friend’s Exorcism upon the masses, but we’ll keep you posted as additional news emerges. Stay tuned! And, since we don’t even have a trailer for Happy Death Day 2U yet, peep the synopsis and trailer for the original Happy Death Day below.

Synopsis:
Tree Gelbman is a blissfully self-centered collegian who wakes up on her birthday in the bed of a student named Carter. As the morning goes on, Tree gets the eerie feeling that she’s experienced the events of this day before. When a masked killer suddenly takes her life in a brutal attack, she once again magically wakes up in Carter’s dorm room unharmed. Now, the frightened young woman must relive the same day over and over until she figures out who murdered her.
