Here’s Why We’ll Probably Never See Neill Blomkamp’s ALIEN 5
The story of Neill Blomkamp’s proposed 5th installment in the Alien franchise has become something of a modern Don Quixote story, a Melvillian tale of one man’s cinematic white whale. Though he seemed to have both studio support and a thumbs-up from series staple Sigourney Weaver, excitement for what was dubbed Alien 5 ended abruptly when franchise mastermind Ridley Scott announced his intention to expand the franchise with his own prequel films.
Since then, Prometheus has been followed by 2017’s Alien: Covenant with Scott oft proclaiming plans for many more Alien movies. Of course, everything became nebulous once Disney began making maneuvers to purchase 20th Century Fix, the home of Alien and other horror franchises like Predator. Whether there will be a place for Xenomorphs in The House of Mouse remains to be seen.
