He Made AQUAMAN Cool, Now James Wan Wants to Make a BATMAN Horror Movie

We’ve been following the production and imminent release of Aquaman for one primary reason: It’s helmed by 21st Century Master of Horror James Wan, the co-mastermind of the Saw and Insidious franchises, not to mention that architect of the entire Conjuring Universe. We figured, if Wan’s holding the reigns, Aquaman may actually be worthy of horror fan’s attention.

Reviews from early screenings of Aquaman, which will splash into US theaters on December 21st, have been fantastic, making the possibility of Wan directing another superhero flick highly likely. He was recently grilled by the folks at Heroic Hollywood, who asked Wan id he’d be willing to take a whack at another DC property. His answer was a common one: Batman. What’s uncommon, though, is the approach Wan would like to take with Gotham’s Dark Knight.

“In the past, like most people, I loved the idea of directing Batman, but a horror version of Batman. That would be a potential fantasy of mine, but I feel like he’s been done quite a fair bit. But, I do love the idea of doing an outright scary Batman. I feel like that’d be really cool.”
