(Spoilers) Video Explores the Surprising Origins of HELLBOY’s Flaming Sword

In Guillermo del Toro’s Hellboy movies, the titular big red guy’s weapon of choice appeared to be a huge revolver. When we got our first look at the new Hellboy, directed by Neil Marshall and starring David Harbour, however, our anti-hero is wielding a flaming sword. Fans who aren’t familiar with the source material (Mike Mignola’s graphic novels) wondered about this fiery weapon, and one of our favorite UK film critics, Mr. H, has produced a video that explores the sword’s surprising origins.

To sum it up in a single sentence, Hellboy’s sword is Excalibur, the same weapon wielded by King Arthur. Whether this will be a plot point in the upcoming film (or even addressed at all) remains to be seen. We’re expecting our first trailer for Hellboy this Thursday, so stay tuned for all related details as news emerges.

Synopsis:
Based on the graphic novels by Mike Mignola, Hellboy, caught between the worlds of the supernatural and human, battles an ancient sorceress bent on revenge.

In addition to Harbour, Hellboy stars Milla Jovovich, Ian McShane, and Sasha Lane. Look for it to arrive in US theaters beginning April 12th.
