Folk Horror & Psychological Terror Collide in Terrifying Trailer for THE HOLE IN THE GROUND

Anyone who knows me well knows that I’m obsessed with the idea of life underground: Lost tribe, undiscovered species, even underworld societies. So, the trailer for The Hole in the Ground (directed by Lee Cronin from a script co-penned by Stephen Shields) looks right up my alley! I’m imagining a mix of folk horror (specifically, changeling lore) and psychological terror that will teeter on the edge of madness!

Straight out of Ireland, The Hole in the Ground will arrive sometime in 2019 via A24 (the same studio that brought us Hereditary and The Witch). The film will enjoy its world premiere at Sundance before hitting DIRECTV January 31st; look for it in select theaters beginning March 1st.  Check out the bone-chilling trailer above and the film’s synopsis below.

Synopsis:
Sarah and her young son Chris move to a new home in the Irish countryside, next to a forest that hides an enormous sinkhole. One night, Chris vanishes, and when he reappears he seems unharmed and unchanged. But, as his behavior grows increasingly disturbing, Sarah begins to fear that the boy who has returned may not be her son at all.

Hole in the Ground stars Seána Kerslake, James Quinn Markey, and Simone Kirby.
