New Writers Hired to Pen Script for Live-Action MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE Movie
We’ve been following news of a proposed live-action reboot of Masters of the Universe since the project was first announced last year. Adam and Aaron Nee had been retained to direct the flick with writer and executive producer David S. Goyer penning the script. Now, we’re getting word that a new team of writers have been retained to completely re-write the movie. Sorry, David.
Deadline announced that Art Marcum and Matt Holloway will take up the mantle, delivering a completely different script. The industry hub also announced:
Currently, Masters of the Universe had a release date of this year on December 20, but getting an event production of this magnitude up and running will take time. So, it’s quite conceivable we could see that release date move into 2020.
You can’t start back at square one without at least some delay, am I right? Expect an announcement pushing the release date back any day now.
The last Masters of the Universe live-action film came out in 1987; it was directed by Gary Goddard from a screenplay penned by David Odell. That film starred Dolph Lundgren, Frank Langella, and Meg Foster. You can peep the synopsis and trailer for 1987’s Masters of the Universe below.
Synopsis:
When the evil Skeletor (Frank Langella)
finds a mysterious power called the Cosmic Key, he becomes nearly invincible.
However, courageous warrior He-Man (Dolph Lundgren) locates inventor Gwildor
(Billy Barty), who created the Key and has another version of it. During a
battle, one of the Keys is transported to Earth, where it is found by teenagers
Julie (Courteney Cox) and Kevin (Robert Duncan McNeill). Now both He-Man and
Skeletor’s forces arrive on Earth searching for the potent weapon.
