Tom Atkins Stars in Trailer for POLYBIUS Based on Popular Urban Legend
Back in the early 1980s (or so the story goes) a mysterious video game called Polybius popped up in a few local arcades in and around Portland, Oregon. Those unlucky enough to drop a few coins into the machine were mesmerized by a complex puzzle. Legend has it, many became obsessed with the game, even committing suicide when unable to play or reaching points of exasperation. After several concerned inquires, the game was quickly removed from all arcades, never to be seen again.
Some believe Polybius was actually a secret government mind-control experiment; an attempt to lobotomize rebellious youth by piggybacking on the then-new video game craze. None of it is true, of course, but Polybius remains one of the most popular and enduring urban legends of the 21st Century.
Now, Jimmy Kelly is working with Fight On Entertainment to turn Polybius into a short film certain to thrill the masses. His cast is significantly bolstered by the participation of horror icon Tom Atkins (Halloween 3: Season of the Witch, The Fog). Synopsis:
In 1981, a mysterious arcade game popped
in random places in Oregon. During it’s run, government men would visit the
game, take readings, and leave. Those that had the misfortune of playing
claimed to suffer from depression, night terrors, obsession, and more. Our
story takes place at the beginning of this legend. JENNIFER, an intelligent
teen, witnessed her brother succumb to the game. She has arrived at the police
station to talk with SHERIFF ATKINS (Tom Atkins) where she is questioned by him
and his protege OFFICER LLOYD. The three attempt to discover what is Polybius.
