Richard Stanley Returns to Feature Filmmaking With Nicolas Cage in H.P. Lovecraft Adaptation!
Well, this is just rather incredible news! Richard Stanley, the director of Hardware and Dust Devil, will return to the world of feature filmmaking after 20 years to direct Color Out of Space, an adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft’s story. The script was co-written by Stanley and Scarlett Amaris (Replace).
The film, which starts principal photography next month, is being produced by Elijah Wood and Lisa Whalen’s SpectreVision, the folks responsible for last year’s smash hit Mandy. It will star Nicolas Cage, Joely Richardson, Tommy Chong, Elliot Knight, Julian Hilliard, and Q’Orianka Kilcher.
Color Out of Space, “…centers on a family who moves to a remote farmstead in rural New England to escape the hustle of the 21st century when a meteorite crashes into their front yard, resulting in the land and the properties of space-time being infected with a strange, otherworldly color. To their horror, the family discovers that this alien force is gradually mutating every life form that it touches.“
“Lovecraft is the dark father of modern horror, and we have been searching for an adaptation that captures the true scope of his cosmic dread for years,” said SpectreVision’s Daniel Noah. “Richard Stanley — a wizard in his own right – will at long last bring Lovecraft’s humbling power to the screen unfiltered.”
I think we can all agree that this movie just leapt to the top of our “Most Anticipated” horror films!
