Zack Snyder is Back! Filmmaker to Helm Zombie Horror ARMY OF THE DEAD for Netflix

Filmmaker Zack Snyder was nearly an icon of horror for his amazingly well-received (and genuinely entertaining) remake of George A. Romero’s Dawn of the Dead in 2004. Since then, Snyder became synonymous with superhero movies before a personal tragedy pulled him off of Justice League in 2017.

Now, Zack’s back! THR is reporting the filmmaker has signed a deal to helm a new feature film for Netflix—and it’s a zombie horror movie! Now that’s something to get excited about! Here’s the scoop on Army of the Dead:

Snyder also came up with the story for Army, which has a script by Joby Harold. The adventure is set amid a zombie outbreak in Las Vegas, during which a man assembles a group of mercenaries to take the ultimate gamble, venturing into the quarantined zone to pull off the greatest heist ever attempted.

Snyder seems to be genuinely relishing his return to the limelight, telling THR:

“There are no handcuffs on me at all with this one. I thought this was a good palate cleanser to really dig in with both hands and make something fun and epic and crazy and bonkers in the best possible way.”

Obviously, this project is still in its infancy, so we’ll be following it for a while; don’t expect a trailer anytime soon. Still, check out the synopsis and trailer for 2004’s Dawn of the Dead for a reminder of just how intense Snyder can be when he’s at his best.

Welcome back, Zack!

Synopsis:
When her husband is attacked by a zombified neighbor, Ana (Sarah Polley) manages to escape, only to realize her entire Milwaukee neighborhood has been overrun by the walking dead. After being questioned by cautious policeman Kenneth (Ving Rhames), Ana joins him and a small group that gravitates to the local shopping mall as a bastion of safety. Once they convince suspicious security guards that they are not contaminated, the group bands together to fight the undead hordes.
