The King will rise again in 2019!

The Stephen King Renaissance that began following the phenomenal success of Andy Muschietti’s IT in 2017 may have cooled in 2018, but it’ll be back with a vengeance in the coming months—and beyond. We already knew we were getting a new adaptation of Pet Sematary in April and IT: Chapter Two in September. Now, we’re getting word that Mike Flanagan’s sequel to The Shining, Doctor Sleep, will also hit theaters in 2019!

Originally scheduled to hit theaters in January, 2020, Warner Bors. Just announce the film will arrive months sooner on November 8th, 2019. This truly will be an epic year for Stephen King-related properties, with these films, plus TV series based on The Stand, The Outsiders, and a second season of Castle Rock also in the works.

It’ll be some time before we get any official images or a trailer, but we’ll be keeping our ears to the ground in order to bring you all Doctor Sleep-related news as details emerge. Stay tuned! In the meantime, you can give the synopsis for the novel Doctor Sleep a read below.

Synopsis:
On highways across America, a tribe of people called the True Knot travel in search of sustenance. They look harmless—mostly old, lots of polyester, and married to their RVs. But as Dan Torrance knows, and spunky twelve-year-old Abra Stone learns, the True Knot are quasi-immortal, living off the steam that children with the shining produce when they are slowly tortured to death.

Haunted by the inhabitants of the Overlook Hotel, where he spent one horrific childhood year, Dan has been drifting for decades, desperate to shed his father’s legacy of despair, alcoholism, and violence. Finally, he settles in a New Hampshire town, an AA community that sustains him, and a job at a nursing home where his remnant shining power provides the crucial final comfort to the dying. Aided by a prescient cat, he becomes “Doctor Sleep.”

Then Dan meets the evanescent Abra Stone, and it is her spectacular gift, the brightest shining ever seen, that reignites Dan’s own demons and summons him to a battle for Abra’s soul and survival. This is an epic war between good and evil, glorious story that will thrill the millions of devoted readers of The Shining and satisfy anyone new to this icon in the Stephen King canon.

Doctor Sleep will star Rebecca Ferguson, Jacob Tremblay, and Ewan McGregor.
