James Wan Fuels Rumors of AQUAMAN Spinoff THE TRENCH

When Aquaman’s home-world of Atlantis sank eons back, most survivors adapted and thrived underwater. Others, however, devolved into hideous monsters dubbed the Trench. In James Wan’s recent Aquaman standalone movie based on the popular DC character, Arthur Curry faced off against the Trench only briefly, but it was a sequence that certainly struck a chord with horror fans.

Now, rumors are swirling that Warner Bros. is in pre-production on a spinoff featuring the aquatic fiends, and the working title is, of course, The Trench. Wan tweeted about the project to his followers—though he refused to confirm or deny it’s something he’s actively involved in.

“During the early stages of preproduction [for Aquaman], I fell in love with the Trench and its designs… and secretly hoped to explore this world further/more. (Now, I’m not confirming or denying this project)”

Aquaman was a critical and box office win for Wan; it’ll arrive on Blu-ray/DVD beginning March 26th. You can check out the synopsis and trailer below.

Synopsis:
Once home to the most advanced civilization on Earth, the city of Atlantis is now an underwater kingdom ruled by the power-hungry King Orm. With a vast army at his disposal, Orm plans to conquer the remaining oceanic people — and then the surface world. Standing in his way is Aquaman, Orm’s half-human, half-Atlantean brother and true heir to the throne. With help from royal counselor Vulko, Aquaman must retrieve the legendary Trident of Atlan and embrace his destiny as protector of the deep.

Aquaman stars Jason Momoa, Amber Heard, and Willem Dafoe.
