Sam Raimi-Produced Short THE WORST PLANET ON EARTH Makes Its Way Online: Exclusive BTS Video
For aspiring filmmakers, shorts are a way of proving their ability and showcasing what they could do if they were to be given a chance at making a feature. They’re a proof-of-concept that the team is able to create a full, understandable narrative in a limited period of time. And, when done right, they’re sharable to an extent that few can fathom. Just look at Lights Out and Mama, two shorts that hit the mainstream so hard that they were each expanded into feature-length films. The power of a good short is undeniable.
Today, Joe and Lloyd Stas of Holomax have released a short film titled The Worst Planet on Earth. The team behind 2016’s Spooky Club, the duo are back and this time they’ve got the help of horror icon Sam Raimi as producer, alongside Debbie Liebling, of South Park and Dodgeball fame!
Sam Raimi explains, “After seeing Spooky Club, I was hooked and wanted more from Holomax. The Worst Planet on Earth surpassed my expectations in style and tone only to reinforce my already high opinion of these talented writer/directors.”
“Trapped in the future after humanity has become extinct, Penny the astronaut attempts to find a way home alongside her new best friend, a useless wizard named Cola.“
The short blends the aesthetics of a post-apocalyptic Earth with sci-fi, horror, and fantasy themes. While that sounds like a hefty amount of work, the team deftly pulls it off, creating a delightful, charming, and quirky short that is perfectly tongue-in-cheek.
The film stars Olivia Newton and Michael Muyunda. You can watch it below as well as check out an exclusive behind-the-scenes featurette!
