Exclusive: Jen & Sylvia Soska Pitched a DEAD RINGERS Remake with a Gender Swap

When Jen and Sylvia Soska’s Rabid arrives in theaters sometime in 2019, it’ll be noteworthy and important for a number of reasons. First, it will mark the most ambitious film the “Twisted Twins” have helmed to date. It’s also the very first remake of a David Cronenberg movie—ever.

But the Soskas have a legitimate affinity for the works of Cronenberg, a fellow Canadian who has long served as a source of inspiration for the filmmaking duo. And while Rabid is the perfect film for these Queens of modern body horror to reboot, there’s another Cronenberg property they’d love to sink their teeth into—and they’ve already pitched it.

Dead Ringers is the story of twin gynecologists who work together, live together, and fall in love with the same woman. A film about the complex relationship between twins strikes a chord with the genetically identical filmmakers and Jen has revealed to Dread Central that she and Sylvia are dying to remake the property for the 21st Century—with a twist.

“We’re after the rights to Dead Ringers. We have a perfect pitch for it. Had one for years. [It] includes a gender swap for the main twin doctors. We pitched it to our new producers and decided we had to get the rights to do it. A film or perhaps a TV series.”

Dead Ringers Synopsis:
Elliot (Jeremy Irons), a successful gynecologist, works at the same practice as his identical twin, Beverly (also Irons). Elliot is attracted to many of his patients and has affairs with them. When he inevitably loses interest, he will give the woman over to Beverly, the meeker of the two, without the woman knowing the difference. Beverly falls hard for one of the patients, Claire (Geneviève Bujold), but when she inadvertently deceives him, he slips into a state of madness.

As for recent rumors on social media claiming that the Soskas are pitching a number of Cronenberg movies, Jen explains, “That tweet was taken a little out of context. We are not pitching Scanners or Cat People, although those are two properties we’d love a crack at.”

While their proposed Dead Ringers remake isn’t moving forward at this time, Jen has a message for anyone else thinking of moving in on it: “We’re after the rights. Anybody else wanting it better watch out or end up in a storage locker!”

We don’t have a trailer or release date for Rabid yet, but it’s on our list of the most hotly-anticipated horror movies of 2019. We’ll keep you posted on all Soska-related news as details emerge so check back often and stay tuned!
