Is US Set in the Same Universe as GET OUT? Everything You Need to Know About Jordan Peele’s Next Film
Being a hardcore horror fan automatically makes you something of an amateur conspiracy theorist. When you watch a film go from inception to release, there’s a lot of time to dissect the details as they trickle out. From interviews to teaser trailers and even leaks, many of us revel in hypothesizing about what awaits us. A perfect example is Us, the sophomore feature film from Jordan Peele.
While Us enjoyed its world premiere at SXSW a week and a half ago (you can read Jonathan Barkan’s review, HERE), most of us won’t get a chance to see what the buzz is all about until it hits US theaters nationwide this Friday (Thursday night in some markets). Then, one of the most intriguing questions fans have will be answered: Does Us take place in the same universe as Peele’s first film, Get Out?
This is only one of the topics discussed in a recent video from our friends at Looper: “Watch This Before You See Us”. It’s more than just an overview of what we know about the film so far; it’s a succinct retrospective of Peele’s entire career as well as an introduction to lead actress Lupita Nyong’o. Whether or not Us and Get Out take place in the same universe, there are certain to be thematic ties between the stories.
Give Looper’s video a spin at the top of the article and check out the trailer and synopsis for Us below.
Synopsis:
Accompanied by her husband, son and
daughter, Adelaide Wilson returns to the beachfront home where she grew up as a
child. Haunted by a traumatic experience from the past, Adelaide grows
increasingly concerned that something bad is going to happen to her family. Her
worst fears soon become a reality when four masked strangers descend upon the
house, forcing the Wilsons into a fight for survival. When the masks come off,
each stranger takes the appearance of a different family member.
In addition to Nyong’o, Us stars Elisabeth Moss, Anna Diop, and Winston Duke.
