There’s a lot going on behind the scenes of “The Vampire Diaries” during its winter hiatus with several news items coming out over the past couple of days. We have a casting update for two of Klaus’ brothers; a hint of what’s in store for their sister, Rebekah; and a peek at Torrey DeVitto, aka Mrs. Paul Wesley, in character as Dr. Fell.
First up we have British actor Casper Zafer (Monsieur Francois; below left) and Australian actor Nathaniel Buzolic (Needle; below right) being tapped to play the recurring roles of Finn and Kol, respectively, who have a bone to pick with their brother Klaus (Joseph Morgan), especially since they’ve been locked up in those coffins he’s been carting around for so long. According to TV Guide Zafer and Buzolic will first appear in Episode 13, airing on January 26th.
And what about their dear sister, Rebekah (Claire Holt), whom Elena (Nina Dobrev) stabbed and killed as she prepared for the homecoming dance? As we all know, it takes a lot to off an Original, and according to the show’s executive producer Julie Plec, “We haven’t seen the last of Rebekah. The fact that Elena killed Rebekah is going to come back to bite her in the butt.”
When the series picks up in January, not only does the Original sister return in a flashback, but she also makes her presence felt in the present day. “I’m not going to say when she makes her reappearance, but certainly her being undaggered is not in Elena’s best interest,” Plec teases.
Now let’s turn our attention to the few remaining human members of the cast of “The Vampire Diaries”. Below you’ll see Matt Davis (Alaric) accompanied by guest star Torrey DeVitto as Dr. Mary Fell. She’s appearing in the first two episodes to air upon the series’ return on January 5th. Here’s the synopsis for her debut:
Episode 3.10 “The New Deal” (1/5/12 Air Date; 8:00-9:00 PM):
A REASON TO FEEL GUILTY — Stefan (Paul Wesley) has hidden the coffins containing the bodies of Klaus’ (Joseph Morgan) family, and Klaus quickly turns to violence to convince Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Elena (Nina Dobrev) that no one will be safe until he finds Stefan and gets his family back.
Tyler (Michael Trevino) continues to make the most of his new abilities as a hybrid, but he has to face the disturbing consequences of his actions as well.
After a terrifying incident, Elena and Alaric (Matt Davis) grow increasingly concerned about Jeremy’s (Steven R. McQueen) attitude and, ultimately, his safety. Alaric meets the beautiful Dr. Fell (guest star Torrey Devitto, “Pretty Little Liars”), who is intrigued with his amazing ability to heal. While trying to strike a deal with Klaus, Elena delivers news that truly shocks him.
Kat Graham also stars, and Internet personality Justine Ezarik guest stars as a bartender. John Behring directed the episode written by Michael Narducci.
