Rest in Peace: Former New Line Cinema CEO Michael Lynne Has Passed Away
Another passing to report today as former New Line Cinema CEO Michael Lynne has passed away at age 77. The information has been confirmed by THR.
Lynne was originally brought on board at New Line Cinema as an outside legal consultant in the early ’80s after a chance encounter with Bob Shaye. After working with them for several years, he grew in the ranks, becoming President and COO in 1990 before becoming co-chairman and co-CEO in 2001.
Together, Lynne and Shaye were responsible for some of the biggest film franchises in Hollywood history, including A Nightmare on Elm Street and Lord of the Rings, both projects that essentially saved New Line Cinema. They also worked on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Rush Hour, Austin Powers, and much more.
We send our deepest condolences to his family and friends in this sad time. We also raise a glass to the man who was such a major part of New Line Cinema, “the house that Freddy built.”
