Promotion at CinemaCon Suggests THE NEW MUTANTS Will Get Theatrical Release in 2019

The New Mutants was one of the most hotly-anticipated horror movie releases of 2018—except it was never released. Despite fantastic test screenings, producers opted to postpone the movie’s roll-out until 2019. Then they postponed it again. Then everything seemed to get put on hold pending Disney’s aquisition of 20th Century Fox. Then, most recently, came rumors that The New Mutants was going back for additional reshoots.

It’s such a complex and nebulous situation, even star Maisie Williams told reporters she didn’t know, “…when the f***” The New Mutants would ever see the light of day.

While we still don’t know exactly when it now looks fairly certain The New Mutant will indeed arrive in 2019. The movie was listed on Disney’s slate of upcoming releases at CinemaCon in Las Vegas yesterday. The film’s release date on IMDB still reads August 2nd, but that seems like a long-shot, especially if the studio still hopes to conduct additional reshoots. Time will tell.

Check out the synopsis and (very old, most likely outdated) trailer for The New Mutants below.

Magik, Wolfsbane, and other teenage mutants try to come to grips with their superpowers while staying at a secret facility.
