Tim Burton Squashes Hopes for a BEETLEJUICE Sequel
In Beetlejuice, directed by Tim Burton and released in 1988, characters could summon the titular bio-exorcist by saying his name three times. In real life, we could chant “Beetlejuice” until we’re blue in the face, and the madcap phantom will never materialize. That’s because Burton has revealed that a Beetlejuice sequel will probably never happen.
At last week’s premiere of Dumbo, USA Today asked Burton for an update on the status of a Beetlejuice sequel (which seemed likely a couple of years ago) and got this
USA Today then reached out to Warner Bros. spokeswoman Candice McDonough, who seemed the put the final proverbial nail in the Beetlejuice coffin: “The project isn’t in active development.”
At least we still have the Beetlejuice musical to look forward to.

Synopsis:
After Barbara (Geena Davis) and Adam Maitland (Alec Baldwin) die in a car accident, they find themselves stuck haunting their country residence, unable to leave the house. When the unbearable Deetzes (Catherine O’Hara, Jeffrey Jones) and teen daughter Lydia (Winona Ryder) buy the home, the Maitlands attempt to scare them away without success. Their efforts attract Beetlejuice (Michael Keaton), a rambunctious spirit whose “help” quickly becomes dangerous for the Maitlands and innocent Lydia.
