Original Story SCOOBY-DOO AND THE LOST CITY OF GOLD Will Be a Live Theater Extravaganza

Scooby-Doo has long been considered a sort of horror primer for kids, a way to introduce concepts like death and the supernatural in a fun, safe format. This probably explains why grown-up horror fans still have a strong affinity for Scooby and his gang of sleuths. An article we posted a couple of years back highlighting the background art from the long-running cartoon series when viral.

The folks at Warner Bors. and Montreal-based Monlove will celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Scooby-Doo with a live theater extravaganza unlike anything previously seen. The production will include “puppets, actors, dance, original music, aerial arts, interactive video, video mapping, and more to create live, family entertainment that will offer as much for the adults who grew up on Scooby as it will for their kids who still rock Scooby lunchboxes and backpacks to this day!”

Here’s the skinny from today’s press release:

“Celebrating 50 years of mystery-solving fun this year, Warner Bros. Consumer Products and Monlove announce today a partnership to begin production of Scooby-Doo and the Lost City of Gold, a completely original live entertainment spectacular. Scooby-Doo and the Lost City of Gold will take audiences on an awe-inspiring journey with a brand-new story based on one of the top-grossing international franchises of all time. The production is slated to premiere in March 2020 and continue on a global, five-year tour visiting more than 30 countries around the world.”

“On the heels of Scooby-Doo’s 50th anniversary, we are thrilled to partner with Monlove to introduce an immersive, world-class experience that brings the meddling antics of the Mystery Inc. Gang to life in a way fans, young and old, have never seen before,” said Peter van Roden, Senior Global Themed Entertainment, Warner Bros. Consumer Products.
