DC’s SWAMP THING TV Series Cut Short & Shut Down, Possibly Due to Streaming Platform Concerns

We’ve all been looking forward to the new TV series based on Swamp Thing, set to debut on May 31st on DC’s new streaming channel. Now, we’re getting word that production has been abruptly halted, with the planned number of episodes for Season 1 cut from 13 to ten. The move has left those currently working on the project confounded (and many Swamp Thing fans scratching their heads).

Star News Online broke the news, reporting:

The currently in-production project is being shut down earlier than expected as its producer, Warner Bros., evaluates the future of its DC Universe streaming service, on which the series was scheduled to premiere May 31, according to several sources within the local industry.

Actress Virginia Madsen confirmed the shutdown Wednesday morning on Instagram with a post that read: “I’m beyond sad. What a terrible decision. We have been cut to the core by those who have never set foot into the Swamp. And despite the rule I am going to use the hashtag. #swampthing.”

Some additional filming is expected in order to give the season a conclusion, but everything is in limbo at this point. It’s a confusing situation, but we’ll be keeping our ears to the ground in order to bring you updates as details emerge. Stay tuned and check back often.
