Exclusive: Lars Klevberg Has No Idea if POLAROID Will Ever See the Light of Day

Polaroid

Horror fans have gotten familiar with the name Lars Klevberg since it was first announced that the Norwegian filmmaker would be directing Orion’s reboot of Child’s Play, arriving in US theaters on June 21st. But we might have become familiar with his name much sooner if his first feature film had been released in 2018 as planned.

Klevberg directed Polaroid from his short film of the same name. The trailers presented a group of high school students who fall under the evil sway of a cursed camera. It looked way better than your run-of-the-mill teen-centric thriller, and we were all stoked to check it out.

Then, The Weinstein Company disintegrated. Since then, the future of Polaroid (and many other films) remains in limbo.

Dread Central caught up with Klevberg at a recent Child’s Play promotional event in Beverley Hills where we were inquired on the status of Polaroid.

“I have no idea [if we’ll ever see it],” he stated bluntly. “The Weinstein Company collapsed and now the bank owns it. I have no idea what will happen.” It’s a shitty situation that Klevberg has been able to put out of his mind for the past few months. “Child’s Play has consumed my life” he explains.

But it’s clearly still a wound, even if it’s healing. “Everyone involved was really happy with how it turned out and we were excited for everyone to see it. It’s a shame.”

Agreed. Check out the synopsis and trailer for Polaroid below, and perhaps our collective desire to see it released will get this ball rolling again.

Synopsis:
High school loner Bird Fitcher finds a vintage Polaroid camera that holds dark and mysterious secrets. She soon realizes that those who get their picture taken by it meet a tragic and untimely death.

Polaroid stars Kathryn Prescott, Tyler Young, and Samantha Logan.
