Legendary CEO Confirms Company’s Hope to Continue the MonsterVerse After GODZILLA VS KONG
If you’re a regular reader of Dread Central, you know the deal: Godzilla: King of the Monsters is a sequel to both 2014’s Godzilla and 2017’s Kong: Skull Island. Even though we’re still a month away from the release of King of the Monsters, its follow-up, Godzilla vs Kong recently wrapped principal photography and is slated for a 2020 release.
After that, the licensing deal Legendary inked with Toho (the home of Godzilla and many other established kaiju) expires. There have been clues, however, that suggesting maneuvers are being made to keep the franchise moving forward beyond Godzilla vs Kong. For starters, Toho made a huge investment in a Los Angeles company, suggesting the studio plans on setting up shop in Hollywood.
Now, Legendary CEO Joshua Grode has confirmed to THR that he hopes the future of the MonsterVerse may be bright. When asked if there were plans to continue beyond Godzilla vs Kong he replied, “I hope [we make] a lot [of additional Godzilla movies]. I hope the gas tank is full.”
