Cast of Ari Aster’s MIDSOMMAR Describe the Film’s Creepy Cult

One of the most hotly-anticipated horror movies of 2019 is hands down, Midsommar. It’s the follow up to Hereditary; 2018’s genre smash was the debut feature film from writer/director Ari Aster, and we’re all chomping at the bit to see what he delivers next. In a recent interview with EW, Aster claimed Midsommar can’t be compared to anything we’ve seen before in the world of cinema.

In the same article, cast members Jack Reynor and Florence Pugh described what’s in store for their characters when Midsommar arrives in US theaters beginning July 3rd.

Of the cult at the film’s center, Reynor states:

“[In] The Wicker Man, that’s kind of a cult you wouldn’t mind being a part of. But these guys, in Midsommar, they’re really f—ing creepy dudes. They’re a really weird, culty kind of commune. Everybody’s all dressed in white, they have strange kinds of social cliques.”

Plugh describes her character Dani’s state of mind, and how she views the creepy cult:

“Dani has had a loss, [and] by the time that the film starts, she’s in the middle of a relationship that is on its way out. When we meet her, she’s just about to suffer some more. So it’s pretty much rock bottom with her! They’re in the middle of their holiday, and a few of them are over it, and I’m getting inspired to look around and figure things out.”

Synopsis:
A young woman reluctantly joins her boyfriend on a summer trip where things quickly go awry.

In addition to Reynor and Pugh, Midsommar stars Will Poulter, William Jackson Harper, and Vilhelm Blomgren.
