FANGORIA’s New Podcast, CLASS OF 89, Celebrates Horror Films that Turn 30 This Year
Between acquiring Post Mortem with Mick Garris, and releasing a slate of fun and exciting horror podcasts such as Nightmare University with Rebekah McKendry, and the S. Craig Zahler written audiostate, The Narrow Caves, FANGORIA is taking the podcast world by storm!
Their latest entry, Class of 89, just dropped earlier this week, and features interview style deep-dives on classic horror titles that turn 30 this year. The show is hosted by Director of Digital Production and FANGORIA’s Vanguard of the Vault, Natasha Pascetta, who engages in entertaining and educational interviews with the directors, actors, creators, contributors, and crew members who helped create the horror classics we adore.
First up, is a three part series on 1989’s Pet Sematary with episode 1 featuring actor Brad Greenquist, who played Victor Pascow. Brad spends a large part of the interview lovingly reminiscing about his time on set which included fun interactions with Stephen King, FANGORIA set visits, and lunches spent eating alone due to the graphic nature of his head trauma makeup that literally, made people lose their lunch.
Posterity is a big element of the podcast’s intention as it aims to create audio time-capsules that comprehensively chronicle the details behind horror classics. At the same time, Class of 89 provides a platform for the lesser known creative forces behind the films, such as Carlene Hirsch, the Lead Greensman who was in charge of building the eerily iconic pet cemetery.
“She was in charge of all of the plants on the movie… she actually created the pet cemetery herself and made it look all gnarly. She went to the dump, found trinkets, and put her own photos of her own pets in that pet cemetery,” explains Natasha Pascetta, Host of Class of 89.
In the process, Natasha also uncovers some lesser known stories behind productions, such as the discovery of an actual pet buried beneath the ground where Pet Sematary was filmed.
“When they were digging they found that someone had actually buried their cat in that area. It even had a collar on it! But when the production was over, they put the cat back where they found it.”
Next up in the Class of 89 series is A Nightmare on Elm Street 5: The Dream Child and a Puppetmaster series, followed by the next season, Class of 79, which will include episodes on Tourist Trap and Phantasm.
