Top 5 Reasons SLIPKNOT Fans Must Watch the Band’s Performance on JIMMY KIMMEL Tomorrow

It’s an exciting and emotional time to be a maggot (aka Slipknot fan). The band is set to release their first studio album in almost six years (most likely in August) while simultaneously embarking on their first world tour in years. This excitement, however, has been tempered by an ongoing legal saga that sees long-time percussionist Chris Fehn on the outs with Slipknot head honchos Corey Taylor and Shawn “Clown” Crahan.

All of this makes Slipknot’s performance tomorrow night on Jimmy Kimmel Live a must-watch event indeed. There are a lot of questions that will be answered practically instantaneously when the band hits the stage. Here are the top 5 reasons maggots should stay glued to their televisions Friday night!

  1. The appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live will be Slipknot’s first live performance in about three years! How are the boys holding up? The masks make it hard to tell, but they’re all in their 40s, and two decades of hard rocking can take its toll. Corey Taylor just has knee surgery less than two weeks ago! Still, Slipknot fans have become accustomed to an extreme level of intensity, a juggernaut sound and aesthetic that seems unstoppable.
  2. New masks! With each new album, Slipknot goes through a sort of reincarnation, illustrated by alternate/evolving versions of each member’s mask. While some have hardly changed in decades (Mick Thompson and Craig Jones, I’m talking about you two), others are completely unique with each incarnation. We already know that Taylor collaborated with horror FX guru Tom Savini on his latest mask, so we’re especially curious to see how that one manifested!
  3. New tunes? Slipknot emerged from a years’ long hiatus on Halloween with the surprise release of a new single/video: “All Out Life”. Clues suggest we may be getting another single or video today, but that doesn’t mean the band won’t be debuting additional new material. How has the band’s sound evolved? Inquiring maggots want to know.
  4. The Chris Fehn Question: Here’s the gist: A couple of months back, long-time percussionist Chris Fehn sued the band’s leaders, Corey Taylor and Shawn “Clown” Crahan, over what he claimed were underhanded business practices. The band retaliated by firing Fehn, although the official statement to that effect has since been deleted from Slipknot’s official website. Fehn’s lawyer also expressed the musician’s desire to keep his job. There are a few questions about Fehn that will be revealed immediately: Will he be on stage with his bandmates, as he has been for every show over the past two decades? If not, has he been replaced, or will Slipknot appear as an octet (something they haven’t done since Craig Jones missed a series of European dates due to emergency dental issues)? I don’t think I’m the only one hoping the band has smoothed things over, and old “Pickle Nose” will be up there, banging on drums and kegs, where he belongs.
  5. Rumor Control! A few trusted heavy metal outlets recently announced that original drummer Joey Jordison (who was replaced by Jay Weinberg in 2014) would be returning to the band, but not behind the kit; rather, reports stated that Jordison is replacing Fehn on custom percussions. Of course, these “reports” all came out on April 1st. Then, there’s the rumor that the whole Fehn situation is a publicity stunt, although official court filings make this conspiracy theory a bit outlandish. Certainly, Slipknot’s appearance on Jimmy Kimmel tomorrow will put at least one of these rumors to rest.
