Who is the New Mystery Member of SLIPKNOT?

The recent legal dispute between Slipknot percussionist Chris Fehn and bandmates Corey Taylor and Shawn Crahan has been spun into a full-on conspiracy theory. Some have hypothesized that the entire situation is a publicity stunt. You might think that the band’s reemergence in a new music video (“Unsainted” hit the internet and airways yesterday) these theories would be put to rest, but you’d be wrong. The mystery only deepens.

In “Unsainted” (bottom of the article) Slipknot still appears as a nine-man outfit per usual. While many have striking new masks, one is a bit of an enigma. On percussion opposite “Clown” is a possible new member several forums have dubbed “Burn Victim”. His mask looks very much like Fehn’s (which has changed very little over the past two decades) with some crucial differences:

“Burn Victim’s” mask has a zipper mouth and rivets, which have been staples of Fehn’s masks, but it lacks the downturned, sad eyes and the lengthy proboscis. And, of course, it looks like textured latex–basically, Freddy Krueger’s skin tone. What does it mean?

Who are you?

It could mean a few things. It could mean that Fehan is still in the band, that he is “Burn Victim”, and a potential lawsuit has been averted. There isn’t a lot of footage of him in “Unsainted” but the body-type and movements look a lot like old “Pickle Nose”. But it could also mean that Fehn has been replaced, and this is a new Slipknot bandmate (permanent or temporary).

There’s also a chance that “Burn Victim’s” mask is a message from Taylor and Crahan to Fehn, a coded statement if you will. Perhaps this is their way of saying Fehn “burned himself” and/or “cut off his nose to spite his face” by bringing charges down against his Slipknot family. That would be pretty petty, so I certainly hope it’s not the case.

Will the mystery be solved when the band appears on Jimmy Kimmel Live tonight (May 17th) around 11:35 PM on ABC? Probably not.
