A Supernatural Invasion Headed to PhiladelphiaSometimes planet Earth just can’t catch a break, man. Tsunamis. Earthquakes. Little innocuous possession flicks that cause a tidal wave of disdain and hatred. Oh, and of course supernatural invasions. They’re always fun.

According to Variety, Journey 2: The Mysterious Island 3D helmer Brad Peyton has sold the pitch for Invasion to Cary Granat’s Reel FX banner. Peyton will produce and direct from a script by J. Daniel Shaffer. Andrew Adamson will also produce through his Strange Weather Films shingle.

The story revolves around a group of unarmed, unprepared students from Philadelphia who discover they’ll have to become soldiers to survive an attack from a supernatural force. Mostly known for family fare, Peyton takes his first trip to adult fare with Invasion, described as “in the vein of Cloverfield.”

More on this as it comes.
