BLACK MIRROR/Miley Cyrus Redux Give 30-Year-Old NINE INCH NAILS Song 300% Boost
Black Mirror returned to Netflix last week for a (very short) 5th season, one that concluded with “Rachel, Jack and Ashley Too”. The episode stars Miley Cyrus as pop-star Ashley-O, and her hit song is a reimagining of Nine Inch Nail’s “Head Like a Hole”, a single from 1989’s Pretty Hate Machine album.
“On a role” is a cheesy, groan-inducing ditty, but it delivers a hefty dose of nostalgia. Apparently, “Head Like a Hole” has been enjoying a significant resurgence since “Rachel, Jack and Ashley Too” began streaming. The folks at Loudwire did the math:
Since the June 5 premiere of Season 5 of the popular science fiction series on Netflix, “Head Like a Hole” saw an average increase of 40,000 views per day on YouTube, which is a 300 percent spike from the average daily views from the year prior.
