DREAD Presents: REDCON-1 To Headline Popcorn Horror’s Disability In Horror Month

Next Friday, Glasgow’s genre collective Popcorn Horror will celebrate Disability in Horror Month with a screening of our own REDCON-1! The rest of the night will feature films, “…by disabled filmmakers, featuring disabled actors, or contributing to the conversation on representation in film media.”

REDCON-1 features actress Olivia Story, a triple amputee who originally auditioned as an extra but was given a larger role. After the screening of the film, a short documentary about Olivia’s experiences, which was specially created to highlight her and her talents, will also be shown.

“Along with all of the  REDCON-1 team, we’re very honoured to be a part of Popcorn Horror’s Disability in Horror Month and pleased to be able to support and celebrate this important event.” said writer, director and producer Chee Keong Cheung, “On REDCON-1 we had the opportunity to work with a young and very talented actress called Olivia Story, a triple amputee. After her experience on REDCON-1, it has encouraged her to want to pursue a career in acting. We were so inspired by her story, we decided to make a short film to allow her to share her story with others. Film is such an incredible medium with its ability to connect people, different cultures and communities through both storytelling and the filmmaking experience.”

Tickets for the event, which will be held in Renfield St. Stephens Centre on Friday, June 28, can be purchased here.

A government experiment is unleashed, releasing a mutated genetic virus which amplifies and enhances human abilities. Amidst pandemic chaos, humanity is reborn as a stronger, faster, far more deadly creature; an evolutionary backlash that creates a new breed of killing machine.

As the military loses ground against the onslaught, preparations are made to launch a final strike against an infection they know they cannot contain or conquer; a cleansing of both infected and human alike.

REDCON-1 stars Oris Erhuero, Carlos Gallardo, Mark Strange, Katarina Leigh Waters, Martyn Ford, and Joshua Dickinson. It was produced by Carlos Gallardo (Desperado, Once Upon a Time in Mexico), Stephen L’Heureux (Sin City: A Dame to Kill For), and Kevin Eastman, co-creator of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and publisher of Heavy Metal, as well as Ioanna Karavela and Mark Strange.

You can order REDCON-1 via Epic Pictures.
