Fangoria’s CASTLE FREAK Going into Production in Albania Next Month

Last April, Cinestate (Fangoria’s parent company) and Charles Band announced they would be producing a remake/reboot of Stuart Gordon’s cult sensation Castle Freak, originally released in 1995 and loosely based on the short story “The Outsider” by H. P. Lovecraft.

Today brings word that production is set to commence on Fangoria’s Castle Freak next month (July 2019) in Albania! Here’s the full scoop from this morning’s press release:

Newcomer Clair Catherine, Jake Horowitz, Chris Galust, and Kika Magalhães (The Eyes of My Mother) are set to star in Fangoria’s reimagining of Dennis Paoli and Stuart Gordon’s 1995 horror classic Castle Freak, which starts production next month in Albania. Emily Sweet, Elisha Pratt, and Omar Brunson also star in what will be the second feature team-up between Fangoria and the legendary Full Moon Features, after the success of last year’s Puppet Master: The Littlest Reich.

Award-winning SFX Makeup Artist Tate Steinsiek will make his feature debut directing the script written by Kathy Charles. Italian maestro Fabio Frizzi returns to the Fangoria family to compose an original score for the movie.

Producers include Barbara Crampton, Charles Band (producer of the original Castle Freak), and Justin Martell and Matt Manjourides (The Last Drive-In With Joe Bob Briggs). David Gilbery and Charles Dorfman are executive producing for Media Finance Capital, who have fully financed the picture. Dallas Sonnier and Amanda Presmyk are producing for Fangoria.

Synopsis:
The story follows recently-blinded Rebecca, her boyfriend John, and their friends as they travel to Albania to manage Rebecca’s sudden inheritance of a castle from her long-lost-mother. Once there, they learn that Rebecca’s family harbored dark secrets with potentially cosmic implications. As mysterious happenings and horrific murders begin to occur, Rebecca must unravel her family’s own mysterious history before she too falls prey to… the Castle Freak.

“You could define my life by three major infatuations: Fangoria, H.P. Lovecraft, and Stuart Gordon. To be combining those three great loves of mine into the singular hallucination that will be our new Castle Freak is a bloody dream come true. It’s an absolute honor,” Steinsiek enthuses.
