Exclusive: Christian Volckman’s THE ROOM Heading to Shudder

Dread Central has learned that AMC’s Shudder has locked distribution for Christian Volckman’s sci-fi thriller The Room. The streaming service will be releasing the title across all their territories (North America/UK/Ireland/Australia/New Zealand). The deal negotiated by Emily Gotto on behalf of Shudder and Adeline Fontan Tessaur on behalf of French company Elle Driver.

Shudder’s Emily Gotto said, “From its Twilight Zone-esque hook, to its stylish, scary destination, The Room is a stirring, eerie thriller primed to knock Shudder members out.”

“Shudder has earned a reputation as curators of some of the best genre films from around the world,” said Fontan Tessaur. “We are excited to be working with them to bring Christian Volckman’s stunning new work to audiences in North America, the UK and beyond.”

The film has been playing the festival circuit, including this year’s Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival (BIFFF) and Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival (BIFAN), where it took the Best of Bucheon Choice award.

Kate and Matt are a young New York couple in their thirties. He’s a struggling comic book artist, she’s tired of her job in a big law firm. In search of a more authentic and healthy life, they leave the City and move into an old house in upstate New Hampshire. They soon discover a secret hidden room that has the extraordinary power to materialize anything they wish for. Like children in a fairytale candy house, they spend days and nights indulging their every desire of material possession. And then one day, they ask for a child… a little boy.

The Room comes from an original idea by Volckman, who directed 2006’s Renaissance. He co-wrote the film with Sabrina B. Karine and Eric Forestier. It stars Kevin Janssens, Olga Kurylenko, Francis Chapman, and John Flanders.
