MORTAL KOMBAT Writer Confirms R-Rating Goal And Fatalities

Get ready for some serious gore!

Mortal Kombat writer Greg Russo has taken to Twitter to confirm that the upcoming game-to-film adaptation is aiming for an R-rating and will feature fatalities, the extra gory finishing moves that usually see opponents dismembered, flayed, burned alive, dissolved in acid, dropped on spikes, and so, SO much more. It’s basically an excuse for the developers to have as much of a vicious blast as they want!

The film will shoot in South Australia’s Adelaide, the largest production to date in the region. The current release date is March 5, 2021.

Written by Greg Russo and directed by Simon McQuoid, Mortal Kombatwill begin pre-production later this month with filming scheduled for later this year. James Wan produces alongside Todd Garner, Larry Kasanoff, E. Bennet Walsh, and Michael Clear, with Sean Robins as executive producer.
