Alexandre Aja was one of the pioneers of New French Extremity in the early-mid-2000s and became a household name in horror circles for his brilliant remakes of Wes Craven’s The Hills Have Eyes and Joe Dante’s Piranha.
Now, Aja is enjoying the limelight for directing Crawl, currently playing in US theaters nationwide. But could another remake be in the works? Our friends at We Got This Covered are exclusively reporting the New Line is eyeing Aja for their long-gestating Nightmare on Elm Street re-reboot.

According to sources close to WGTC, Alexandre Aja is currently among the directors being eyed to helm the flick. Nothing is set of stone as of right now, though, as the studio is also considering other directors, one of whom may end up landing the coveted job instead. Still, it’s definitely good news for fans of the series that a serious filmmaker like Aja is at least being considered to front the project. The director is reportedly interested in the job, too, which makes it sound like he’d take it on if asked.
