THE SHINING Sequel DOCTOR SLEEP Gets a Hard R for Copious REDRUM
Stephen King isn’t for kids! Following the recent successes of King adaptations like IT and Pet Sematary, it should come as no surprise that the upcoming sequel to The Shining, Doctor Sleep, has been rated R (as in REDRUM) for “Disturbing and violent content, some bloody images, language, nudity, and drug use”.

The film’s director, Mike Flanagan, weighed in on the announcement on Twitter:

Synopsis:
Struggling with alcoholism, Dan Torrance remains traumatized by the sinister events that occurred at the Overlook Hotel when he was a child. His hope for a peaceful existence soon becomes shattered when he meets Abra, a teen who shares his extrasensory gift of the “shine.” Together, they form an unlikely alliance to battle the True Knot, a cult whose members try to feed off the shine of innocents to become immortal.
Doctor Sleep stars Rebecca Ferguson, Jacob Tremblay, and Ewan McGregor.
