Dread Central to Host Free LA Screening of THE BLACK STRING with Filmmakers on September 19th!
Dread Central will be hosting a free screening of the Frankie Muniz-starring psychological horror flick The Black String on Thursday, September 19th at 7:30 pm at Hollywood’s swanky Arena Cinelounge Sunset (6464 Sunset Boulevard; 323-924-1644). Actress Camilla Jackson will host a Q&A after the screening headlined by: Co-writer/director Brian Hanson; producer Charles Bunce; actress Chelsea Edmundson (Midnight, Texas); actor Blake Webb (Colony); and actor Cullen Douglas (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.). The Black String features gruesome makeup FX by Erik Porn (Teen Wolf, American Horror Story) and screened at the Austin and Dances with Films festivals, as well as Last week’s London Frightfest.
In The Black String, Muniz, best known for comedic roles in Malcolm in the Middle and Agent Cody Banks, stars as a lonely 20something rapidly losing his grip on reality. After Jonathan (Muniz) hooks up with sexy Dena (Edmundson) through a swinger’s hotline, he becomes incredibly ill. Suffering from blackouts and hallucinations, Jonathan’s life begins to fall apart. He becomes convinced that he’s the helpless victim of an evil cult that’s cursed him with deadly mystical forces beyond his control. But is this supernatural threat real or all in Jonathan’s troubled mind?

Checking out The Black String, Horror Channel (UK) rated it four stars and said the movie “will tie your nerves in knots.” And Richard Whittaker of The Austin Chronicle said: “The Black String adds a supernatural twist to recent entries to the body horror canon and invokes something more akin to the psychotic chills of It Follows—just with more weeping sores, mystical horrors, and mental meltdowns.”
This special movie night event is presented by our friends at Lionsgate, who will release The Black String on DVD, Digital and On Demand September 24.
