Andy Muschietti Hopes to Make IT: CHAPTER THREE
IT ends with the conclusion of IT: Chapter Two, floating into US theaters on September 6th (check back from our review on Tuesday). Director Andy Muschietti has done an admirable job adapting Stephen King’s epic tome, and there isn’t much of an established story left to tell. Still, the filmmaker is hoping to return to Derry for IT: Chapter Three.
Where does Muschietti hope to take a potential IT franchise after The Losers Club story arch is complete? One word: Mythology. Here’s what he told our friends at io9:
“There is a whole mythology to the book. Mythology is something that always has opportunities to explore. It has been on Earth for millions of years. He’s been in contact with humans for hundreds of years, every 27 years. So you can imagine the amount of material.”
So how likely is IT: Chapter Three? It will all depend on the success of IT: Chapter Two.
“It’s always exciting to think of eventually exploring this mythology. It’s very exciting. But, for now, there’s nothing on the table,” Muschietti admits.
