Original Castmembers Promise GOONIES 2 Will Happen–Someday

Goonies alumni Sean Astin, Ke Huy Quan, and Corey Feldman participated in a Q&A at Fan Expo over the weekend and, as usually happens when members of the film from 1985 are assembled, someone asked about a potential sequel.

While rumors of a Goonies sequel have been swirling for years (with nothing concrete to show), the trio of actors made Goonies 2 seem like a legitimate possibility. But patience will be key!

ComicBook.com supplied the recap below.

“That is the most asked question I’ve heard for the last 30 years,” Quan said with a laugh. Astin then jokingly answered the question in song, singing the first line of “The Way You Look Tonight.”

“The someday part, someday it’ll happen,” Astin explained after some gentle ribbing from Feldman, who said the song “had nothing to do with” the question.

“The audience wants it, they’re gonna do it, it’s annoying it’s taking so long, I’m sorry on behalf of Steven Spielberg,” Astin said of the Goonies producer, credited with the story that inspired a script penned by Chris Columbus.

“Yeah, we’ll get it done tomorrow,” Feldman said. “I swear.” Added Quan more seriously, “Someday. Someday it’ll happen.”

The Goonies was directed by Richard Donner from a screenplay penned by Chris Columbus from a story by Steven Spielberg. Stroll down Memory Lane by revisiting the trailer below.

Synopsis:
An old-fashioned yarn about a band of adventurous kids who take on the might of a property developing company which plans to destroy their home to build a country club. When the children discover an old pirate map in the attic, they follow it into an underground cavern in search of lost treasure but come up against plenty of dangerous obstacles along the way.
